Livia Snape (nee Kalderash) was a pureblood witch reared in Chilia Veche, a small village on the Danube Delta in Romania. She grew up in a large Lovara Romany family, having one elder brother, Wadim, two sisters, Elena and Teodora, and three cousins, Dorenia, Violca and Patrin. Livia's mother, Tsuritsa, was a known healer in the village.
At 20, she gladly honored an arranged marriage to Septimus Snape of Knaresborough, in northern Yorkshire. The two had fallen deeply in love with each other when Livia was thirteen.
Their union blessed them with a son, Tobias Snape. Tobias was never told of his magic, a plan Septimus and Livia designed to keep their son safe. They thought if he grew up believing himself a Muggle, he wouldn't end up dead.
