Template:Ministry of Magic individual infoboxJames Henry Potter (born 27 March 1960), was a pure-blood wizard and only son of Fleamont and Euphemia Potter (née Montgomery). He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1971 to 1978, and was Sorted into Ravenclaw house, along with his former enemy turned friend Severus Snape.

Early Life (1960 - 1971)

James Potter was born on 27 March 1960 to Fleamont and Euphemia Potter; pure-blood wizards of considerable wealth and prestige. James' conception was very surprising, as his parents had given up on having a child after failing to conceive a child earlier in their marriage, and as such, his parents were quite old; his mother gave birth to him at the age of 51. As a "miracle child," James was pampered a great deal during his youth, leading him to become arrogant, boastful, and proud, but deep down, he was a good person.

Hogwarts years (1971 - 1978)

In 1971, James began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and to his surprise, was sorted into Ravenclaw.

Personality and traits

Orion Black: "Seems like a nice boy, comes from a good pure-blood family."
Sirius Black: "He's a bloody arrogant git father, don't let him fool you."

Although undoubtedly a clever wizard, James was very mischievous and arrogant in his youth. Early on in his tenure at Hogwarts, James was quick to judge, criticizing people such as Sirius Black just because of him being Sorted into Slytherin and coming from a known dark-leaning family, and chastising people for associating himself with "those types", causing him to get frequent verbal thrashings from Severus Snape. He would be the first to jump into a potential prank, and was the mastermind behind many practical jokes in his pre-teen days. Around his third year, James softened up on his arrogance and mischief, though his rebellious side never faded.

When it came to friends, he was very loyal; he supported his friend Remus Lupin upon learning of his Lycanthropy condition, showing that he did not hold prejudice towards werewolves, and despite being a pure-blood himself, he strongly disagreed with the blood purity ideology and prejudice attitudes of many pure-bloods towards Muggle-borns.

Although a talented wizard, James didn't put much effort into his studies, and became rather lazy thanks to his photographic memory. Why he was Sorted into Ravenclaw is a mystery in his mind.
