Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the only wizarding school in Britain and is located in the Highlands of Scotland. Its studentship consists of students from all over the British Isles. Hogwarts is located in a castle in the mountains near a loch; because it is Unplottable, the precise location of the school can never be uncovered. For instance, the school looks like an old abandoned castle to Muggles and various wards prevent them from venturing too close to it.
Established around the 10th century, Hogwarts is part of the Big Eleven and considered by many as one of the finest magical institutions in the wizarding world. Hogwarts enrolls children at age eleven via owl delivered on that child's tenth birthday. However, if the child in question is a Muggle-born, a professor from the school would come and inform the child's parents. The school is divided into four houses, who house students of different values who are sorted by the Sorting Hat at the beginning of their education.
The school's motto is Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus, which, translated from Latin, means "Never tickle a sleeping dragon."
