Administrators, also called sysops, and known as Professors in this wiki, are active and regular users who have access to technical features that help with maintenance of the wiki. Administrators are expected to respect and be familiar with policy as they are known and trusted members of the community. They can protect and delete pages, block other editors, and undo these actions as well. By default, these privileges are granted indefinitely and are only removed under exceptional circumstances involving high level intervention.

Administrators perform essential housekeeping chores that require the extra access administrators are entrusted with. Among them are watching the Articles for deletion debates and carrying out the consensus of the community on keeping or deleting these articles, keeping an eye on new and changed articles to swiftly delete obvious vandalism, and meeting user requests for help that require administrative access. Since administrators are expected to be experienced members of the community, users seeking help will often turn to an administrator for advice and information. In general, administrators acting in this role are neutral. They do not have any direct involvement in the issues they are helping people with.


Meet the team

Sysop tools

Administrators, by virtue of their sysop privileges, have access to a range of tools that normal users do not. Below are listed some, but not all, of the additional abilities that administrators have access to. For the full list, see Special:ListGroupRights.

Blocking

  • Block and unblock IP addresses, IP ranges, and user accounts for a specific time, or indefinitely, in accordance with the Blocking policy.

Interface management

Administrators can manage the appearance and functionality of Harry Potter Fanon Wiki to the extent allowed by Fandom's Terms of Use.

  • Change the text of software messages seen on various pages, including the page that blocked users see when attempting to edit.
  • Change the style and functionality of the interface using CSS and Javascript.

Moving pages

  • Automatically move all associated subpages when moving a page.
  • Move files.

Page deletion

  • Delete and restore pages, in accordance with the Deletion policy.
  • View deleted pages and their page history.

Page protection

  • Protect and unprotect pages, in accordance with the Protection policy. Users can request page protection via Harry Potter Fanon Wiki:Requests for protection.
  • Edit and move protected pages.

Rollback

Spam filter

  • Manage the local spamfilter (AbuseFilter), in the event that the feature becomes enabled in the Harry Potter Fanon Wiki.

Moderation of chat platforms

Administrators automatically receive server moderator status ("administrators" role) on the Harry Potter Fanon Wiki's official Discord server.

Responsibilities

Administrators are expected to participate in carrying out tasks that require sysop rights, including but not limited to:

  • Category:Candidates for speedy deletion — delete pages marked for deletion as appropriate
  • Move files as appropriate
  • Respond to any new requests for administrator attention
  • Review and adjust the spamfilter if needed
  • Clean up vandalism and block offenders

Extended leaves of absence

In the event that an administrator enters into a protracted absence from the wiki, some form of explanation, be it even a simple "I'm taking a break" is desired. In the absence of any explanation, if an administrator does not edit or use admin tools for four months or more, the following steps are to be taken outside of the RFRA process:
