Professor Elizabeth Potter, Duchess of Inverness (née Burke; 1621 - 1705), was a pure-blood witch and headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. She had several portraits hung in the castle. She was the daughter of Acateon Burke and Flavia Malfoy, and later the wife of Andronicus Potter. The two had a son called Zacharias Potter, and soon after his birth Elizabeth became a widow, which led to her becoming regent for her son and all the possessions of the House of Potter.
She held and encouraged pure-blood supremacy, and that would be reflected in not just young Zacharias, but many of her descendants for several generations. As such, she was an ancestor of Harry Potter.
Elizabeth attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was Sorted into Slytherin. She was appointed Headmistress of Hogwarts School at an unknown point, after her marriage to Andronicus. Burke had a portrait painted of herself when she was thirty-five years old, and many frames were made, one of them being placed inside the portrait room of Inverness Castle.
She would later die whilst holding the position of headmistress, leading to a portrait of hers being placed inside the headmaster's office in Hogwarts. This portrait would eventually meet one of her descendants, specifically Harry Potter, and expressed disdain at Harry's placement in Gryffindor, demonstrating Elizabeth's loyalty to her former house.
