D.A.

From Harry Potter Fanon Wiki

The D.A. was a revival of Dumbledore's Army (formerly the "Defence Association") orchestrated by Teddy Lupin, Kai Chang, Dewey Diggory and Violet Parkinson in January of 2009. Meeting in the Room of Requirement, the group was reorganized to address the deep animosity between Houses and the perceived unfairness of the newly instituted Zero Toleration Policy. The D.A. originally grew from an idea by Diggory to create a group for first-year Muggle-borns to comingle and share their experiences in order to alleviate their isolation in a new environment.

Twenty-four first-year students attended the first meeting, including Lupin, Colin Hayes, Edan Burns, Alfred Cattermole, Chloe Grey, Colleen McCormack of Gryffindor; Chang, Connor McCormack, Deana Forte, Gilbert Zirkle, and Aisha Allouzi of Ravenclaw; Diggory, Sung-Hee Moon, Simon Norman, Mercy Burbage and Edgar Hargrave of Hufflepuff; and Parkinson, Stephen White, Nagaeena Indrani, Anthony Dreadmoor, Christopher Tilney, Decima Caul, Bernice Selwyn, and Nero Velenos of Slytherin.

The group's first order of business was the dissemination of posters bearing a large question mark with the phrase "Who is Slipfang?" above it, "Ask your professors!" below it, and "the D.A." at the bottom. The following week, fliers were posted including a list of expelled students with "YOU?" at the bottom, under which appeared "Who's next? The Zero Toleration Policy is Unfair!" Posters were also created juxtaposing a photograph of a man labeled "Dad" with the caption "This can get you expelled" and a drawing of a handgun with the caption "This gets you detention," with the phrase "Down with the ZTP!" below them.

Following the poster campaign, Parkinson and Burbage helped Lupin to draft a letter of protest, signed by twenty-two members of the D.A., which was sent to the Daily Prophet and the Quibbler. The letter was printed in the same issue as a letter from S.C.O.U.R.G.E. The following week, the D.A. staged what became known as "the Pink Protest" when a dozen members – Lupin, Chang, Diggory, Parkinson, Hayes, Grey, Norman, Hargrave, Zirkle, Forte, White, Selwyn – of the group enchanted large sections of Hogwarts Castle pink during a Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff Quidditch match. Using his metamorphing abilities, Lupin impersonated Professor Flitwick and ordered the Hogwarts kitchen-staff of House-elves to take a weekend vacation, after which a banner was hung in the Great Hall reading In Thanks for Their Loyal Service, the House-Elves Have Been Given the Weekend Off, Courtesy of the D.A.

The entirety of the D.A. was punished for "the Pink Protest" by serving in the kitchen in place of the House-elves. After recovering from an altercation with Slipfang, Chang was assigned library duty with Madam Pince; Lupin was assigned to undo the Color Charms cast on Hogwarts, a task complicated by repeated enchantments cast by students to prolong his detention. His task was finally completed when the D.A. banded together to reverse the enchantments on his behalf.

Following Spring Break, the D.A. staged another protest by smuggling Muggle items into Hogwarts, including comic books, skateboards, junk food, cosmetics, sports equipment, ballpoint pens, cellphones, movie posters (including the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the Hunchback of Notre Dame), books, a bicycle, and an old typewriter. Lupin was surprised to learn that both Professor Longbottom and Headmistress Llewellyn both approved of the influx of Muggle culture as a means of breaking down the barriers between so-called "pureblood" wizards and those of Muggle birth.
