The Book of Enrollment was a magical book utilized by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to track potential students. As each wizard or witch within the United Kingdom came of age, their name was magically recorded in the Book.
The Book was created in 993 by Lydia Kepplingham, who served as the first Keeper of the Book. The Book was kept by subsequent Keepers of the Book, until the position was abolished in 1846. The duties of Keeper of the Book were then assumed by the Deputy Headmaster.
