Aminta Ampara (d. June 1967) was a student of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1940's, and received an award for Special Services to the School in 1945. She had no children of her own, but had two nieces who are the daughters of her sister. Her patronus is a crane.
Ampara was later the professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the 1966-1967 school year. She was followed by Professor Lloyd-Howell the subsequent year.
On 26 December 1966, Aminta and her nieces encountered a Dementor while on holiday in Ipswich, and Aminta resolved to teach her sixth- and seventh-year students the Patronus Charm. From December of 1966 through June of 1967, Ampara was also stalked by Fenrir Greyback, who confronted her and scarred her by touching her neck. The scar in turn gave Greyback a sort of telepathic link that he used to slowly work away at Ampara's sanity.
She was later killed by Greyback in the Forbidden Forest on her way back to Hogwarts from Hogsmeade in June of 1967.
Aminta is an Italian name meaning "defender," while Ampara is based on a Spanish name meaning "protection, shelter".
