Albus “Al” Severus Potter (b. 7 January 2006) is a half-blood wizard, the second son and middle child of Harry James Potter and Ginevra Molly Potter (née Weasley). He is the main character of Temporibus Retroactis.
Al lived a peaceful and comfortable life with his parents and siblings in Godric’s Hollow. He spent several years of his life in Muggle school, as his parents thought it would be a good experience for him and his siblings. He, along with his family, often visited the rest of the Weasleys, and they grew close to them.
Despite his initial fear of being sorted into Slytherin, Al was almost immediately sorted into Gryffindor. He was, due to his last name, immediately famous in school, although his real friends, aside from his cousins, were few. Al made it into the Quidditch team as Seeker in his third year and was made prefect in his fifth.
Al was the first to notice Theodore Nott’s name on the Marauder’s Map, well after curfew. He thought that Nott was a student and came down to tell him off. Nott, who came to Hogwarts with a time turner, intending to change what had happened there during the Second War in order to change things, was a former Death Eater who was recently released from Azkaban. When he saw Al approaching, he decided he had better do it quickly and dropped the time turner on the ground, but not before partially erasing Al’s memory.
Al found himself on Privet Drive, and that is where Temporibus Retroactis begins.
Al looks much like his father, sans glasses and scar. His taste in clothing is similar to Harry’s, although his clothes tend to be newer and cleaner, a result of their differences in upbringing.
Al was more quiet and thoughtful than either of his siblings. His most striking personality characteristics were adaptability and loyalty (which accounts for several of the characteristics of his wand, which is ash, 11 ¾ inches, phoenix feather, slightly yielding and only works for the rightful owner). He inherited a strong will from his mother and selflessness from his father. He is usually perceptive and logical, and he has a good memory. However, he is also naïve, short-tempered, easily distracted, occasionally mean, and used to an easy life. He sometimes lets his curiosity get the best of him. He is claustrophobic, acrophobic, and, like his father, he especially fears losing his family.
Magical abilities and skills
Flight – Al got into the Hogwarts Quidditch team in his third year and was able to win the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor in both of the years he played.
Charms – Al was skilled enough to be able to produce a nearly invisible amount of silver vapour when he first attempted the Patronus charm and later was able to conjure a corporeal Patronus, which takes the shape of a killdeer (both because he was willing to sacrifice and because he feared heights). Although not as skilled at this particular magic as his sister, Lily, he was fairly good.
Duelling – Even though he wasn’t very experienced in this, Al can fend off attacks and cast defensive spells excellently.
Al is closer to his father than either of his siblings, partly because he was the one who understood his father the most. Al could often sense what his father is feeling and often is actually on the same train of thought. He admired his father’s bravery and cheek, although he often gets confused by Harry’s behaviour. When he goes back in time to 1995, Al begins thinking of Harry as a friend, and usually is split between thinking of him as his father or his friend. Al resorts to calling Harry of 2021 his Dad and Harry of 1995 by his first name.
Al often couldn’t relate to his mother, although he certainly admired her. When he goes back in time, he thinks of Ginny as a version of his sister, Lily, and feels somewhat protective of her. This also clashes fiercely with the fact that Ginny is his mother.
Al is fiercely protective of his sister and wouldn’t let anything hurt her if he had a choice. He favours Lily over James. Lily, on her part, feels overshadowed by Al (and James) and wants to stand out more. But even though she feels so, she is one of the people who want to get him back the most and will not stop until he’s safe at home.
James Sirius Potter
Al often gets irritated by his brother. He sometimes has to tell James off. James, on his part, loves pissing Al off. But, in the end, they’re brothers and wouldn’t let anything separate them.
Rose Helena Weasley
Rose is Al’s best friend. As a cleverer and stricter person than him, she’s the only person who can scold him without getting the retort that she did something worse. She is one of the people who can understand Al the most, and while Al is in 1995, she helps Hermione find a way to get him back. Although they're just cousins, they're as close as siblings. Rose, however, still doesn't appreciate the fact that Al keeps meddling in her love life.
Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy
Al judged Scorpius like his father judged Scorpius's. He was prejudiced and thought of Scorpius as an arrogant little Slytherin. Although Scorpius was, indeed, a Slytherin, he was nowhere near arrogant and begged the Sorting Hat to put him into Slytherin lest his family have a grudge on him. When Scorpius asked for Al's permission to date Rose in their fourth year, Al didn't approve and made sure that Scorpius didn't even get a chance to ask Rose for the whole year.
